As a child I grew up watching Mr. Rogers Neighborhood.  What made this show both entertaining and educational was  how he introduced us to all he wonderful people, workers, professionals that made up the neighborhood.

Today I had the pleasure of going to one of my extended neighborhoods the Upper East Side in Manhattan.  I had a scheduled appointment with one our our favorite designer, Jane Wilson Marquis.  This British icon is truly a woman of many colors and well traveled.   Her colorful personality attracts the most simple personalities to the Royals of the Middle East.  She has designed dresses from the likes of the members of the Perdu Family, the royalties  of the Middle East, movie stars such as Helen Hunt, to one of our favorite actresses Victoria Rowell and Haitian charity givers Melky Jean.

In this economy everyone whether they have money or not want to be wise about spending it.  Jane has come up with one of the most genius idea this economy is calling for,  re-creating your most simple gowns such that you would buy from J. Crew and embellishing it with paint, crushed flowers, beading from India.  What may have cost you over $3,000.00 plus just a year ago will now be a fraction of the cost with this brilliant idea.  After going through some of her most amazing fabrics we walked the neighborhood to visit some of the great shops.   Just across the street from Jane Wilson Marquis quaint, lifestyle boutique, where you can buy your wedding attire, but that of your wedding party.  Bridesmaid, mother-of-the-bride and guests, and ties for the groom and his groomsmen; was the home of the late legendary performer Ertha Kitt, The Carlyle Hotel.  The amazing ambiance is definitely worth its  fine dining experience, entertaining your out of town guests and lodging.

Right around the corner on the famous Madison Avenue, the next block over stood the next Icon Vera Wang, in her window some of the most amazing gowns money can buy with a sign offering 60% off of ready to wear items.  Go figure.

Then we walked over to 5th Avenue to stroll down Central Park, which also is the home for some of the cities most talented street vendors.  We caught up with one and so happened to be a Brit, Tiggy Ticenhurst.  This warm personality not only was vibrant in spirit but his colorful personality can also be seen in his beautiful master pieces.

We walked further down towards the most famous structure by the Park the MET.  This amazing structure is the gateway to the most multi-culture talent ever to walk this earth.  The stepping stone to those tired and the seating for the street performers that showcase their great singing voices.  Once you have finished enjoying the strip with vendors selling items from paintings, photographs,  jewelry, ties, t-shirts and food.  You now can climb the steps to the MET, where art at its finest can either be your shade from the heat and sun for you in the summer or the warmth from the cold in the winter.

As I climbed the steps I could not help but see these two lovely ladies with their great hats, worn both for fashion and to shade the rays of sun from their lovely faces.  I reached the top and the massive structure must have been housing at least over 1,000 guests just in the lobby alone.  It is definitely a breath taking view.  In the first floor lobby alone you have seating and shops that retail books, jewelry (Russian pearls, Indian shawls ) are some of the items that can be purchased in their stores.

After moving through the crowds, I stood up high and looked down to the crowed that I towered over and to my amazement the chariots await me.  Yes ladies and gentlemen, you too can have chariot ride, being pedaled by cyclist.  The rates are based on your destination like the typical taxi ride but just more open.

Simply Jane- A Work of Art

Simply Jane- A Work of Art

I then took the short walk back to 76 Streets to pick up my automobile but this time I walked down Madison Avenue to see what other neighbors I could visit and there they were my to favorite consignment stores La Boutique Resale and Michael’s.  Designers from Chloe, Chanel, Prada, Fendi and Gucci.  Great place for that designer cocktail dress that probably was someones’ lust  and they wore it once or twice just to clean there closet and make room for next seasons lust.

So there you have it the most neighborhood can be right in your own backyard you just have to go out and explore.  While your supporting the economy you can also be keeping your neighborhood alive.

Allyson and Sheree

Princess of Haiti continues on Her Journey to Fix her home land- Melky Jean

My Beloved Haiti And Her Artful Soul June 18, 2009

What is the correlation between art and fashion? They are both attainable to those who have the desire to explore all their complex dimension and can be bought by those who truly appreciate and desire it. Those who truly value them as gifts will treasure them for a life time.

It is my pleasure to share with you one of our beloved treasured artist, Melky Jean. To many she is known as Melky Sedeck, sister of Wyclef Jean. This past January Melky married long time friend Carl Hart. This couple that spent years creating music for others finally decided to tie the knot. Melky, the creator of Carma Foundation which was developed for her beloved Haiti continues to share her love of her home land by bringing awareness to Haiti through her music.
World Bride Magazine joined in this extra-ordinary project by bringing on board some more lovers of Haiti. We are proud to introduce to you world re-known painters Elie Escot born in Haiti, born into a family of artist and trained by the world in art and culture. This elegant man greeted us at the door in his home studio in Long Island. From the door to restrooms his home is filled with art that peaces. Work of his most admired predecessors to his own work. “As a painter or any artist so many things inspire you. Life, love God, spirituality and just our beautiful world that we live in.” says Elie. I am surrounded by beautiful people, women, and artist. Elie feels that it is his duty to give back to those that will come after him. He finds joy in art and aspires to build a platform for others to enjoy their love and passion for the world of art as he does.

Patrick Gerald Wah, also known as Wapag, also shares the same sentiments about sharing his love for the arts with others that will come after him. Also born in Haiti, this fatherly figure was most enjoyable to be around. His carefree spirit, not only showed us that art has no boundaries, but no canvas as his paint brush stroked my jeans and that of my assistant.
Wapag pain for wanting to share his art with others can be felt with every stroke. With each brush stroke he poetically confided in us his pain for leaving Haiti because of the lack of support, platform for artist to freely show their work.

So when we presented them with the opportunity to share their art with Melky Jean the Princess of Haiti they humbly accepted. Melky Jean not only felt honored but was touched that her Organization Carma can move others as it does. So on June 21, 2009 at The Griffin Hotel in New York City many will join in the celebration of the Charity Event to support the people of Haiti. Silent Auction, Beauty Bar, good food, entertainment, great friends of all backgrounds. The Rebirth of Haiti is beginning.

Love Nest for Newlyweds April 14, 2009

This comes as a great time in my life as an interior designer to actually write about designing for Newlyweds.. My daughter age 26 is preparing for her wedding in Houston Texas July 4th 2010.  I just came back from visiting them both and put her and her fiancé thru the How are you going to live together test. Questionnaire.. The challenge to make sure that they are able to Love to live in their new lifestyle of matrimony.

We had to review their color preferences design styles what current furniture they will be keeping and what new furniture they will be getting.  What are the comfort needs and functional needs within each room?  Creating their new environment with what they have in new ways and using their new space wisely.

Now for the fun part creating an environment that has a wow factor. Ceiling to floor curtains can be used obviously as window treatments yet can also be used to hide newlyweds prized possessions ….for her old dance shoes for him his trophies yet if we create this hidden treasure façade. In a room every time they look at it they smile together because they both feel satisfied to know that they have kept their identity behind those drapes, instead of a door or a wall…

Create Intimate private spaces such as in a window located in the Living room or in the bedroom a sitting area which they both can share moments together other than just for watching TV or eating. This area can have a small round table which should always contain candles or fresh flowers with two chairs… they do not have to match they should suit the personality of the groom and bride for instant the bride might want an armless chair with a ottoman and the groom might want a recliner

Surrounded by pillows that will eventually end up on the floor …again this area is for conversation reading and sharing romantic time together….

Lighting is a big deal in a new couples environment I suggest dimmers in every room and placement of vases on at least one table in each room waiting for flowers.

Photos, photos everywhere of each other… sharing important moments in their lives, they can be family photos or photos with friends. Just keeping your life moments before marriage alive and well received.

Living your Lifestyle together creates balanced harmony.  Thinking outside of the box in regard to your environment should start early.

Beast of a beauty.....

Beast of a beauty.....

So, yesterday, I had plans to meet with Ms. Mara Newman for my first “walk through” at High Bar. Mara knows everyone in the city and is the sole reason I’m having my wedding at Highbar. I met Mara through one of the former directors at Ford (Kamla Butler- a bridesmaid). Mara’s booked events for Ford over the past few years and I heard she is the best person to know in NYC on the Party. When I first met Mara, she was rockin’ a head full of curly hair, a nameplate chain and fur trim coat. She was boisterous and demanding- I LOVED IT. She showed me some amazing spaces like Aspen Social, Amalia and HighBar and worked out a great deal with the owners. I owe her my firstborn.

No…Really.

So Mara couldn’t make it at the last minute because of another event she was executing. Live events are tricky business!

Anyway, Thank God I brought along Mrs. Elizabeth Kamp and her model hubby Nathan Kamp (and my fiancé) to help bounce ideas off them. Where do we put the tables? What should be draped? Where are the candles? (Elizabeth and Nathan have a show called Nathan Lives To Eat. www.nathanlivestoeat.com.) Elizabeth is naturally REALLY good at décor and design and has taken pity on me and has been helping me pull together ideas. They are most beautiful couple ever! Inside and out, I swear there is a special place in heaven for those two.

It took a couple hours but we figured out what was needed to rent tables and chairs etc. but I’m worried that we won’t have seating for everyone but I refuse to stress! The space is set up like a lounge and not for a sit down dinner. Where’s Grandma going to sit and eat her steak? Indian-style in a bali bed? I don’t think so. ARGH! Sounds like I need an interior designer and THAT sounds expensive. The saga continues…

The Art of Gift Giving and Entertaining At Bernardaud March 31, 2009

The New Meaning of Balling... Bernardaud

The New Meaning of Balling... Bernardaud

Yes, giving gifts is an art. How?   If it is not something valuable to both the giver and the receiver then it is not truly a gift.   If it is not meaningful, it is not a gift.  If there is no effort put into the process, it is not a gift.
A gift is not earned. Its’ motivation is purely out of love… Thus the reason why I have fallen head over heels for Bernardaud.  Bernardaud, the leading manufacturer and exporter of porcelain in France, remains family owned and operated to this day. Since 1863, the insight and techniques for the production of Bernardaud porcelain have been handed down from father to son.  Michel Bernardaud is the fifth generation to become the worldwide ambassador of his family brand.
The tradition of excellence of Bernardaud stems from over 100 years of production in Limoges, France. The innovative design of Bernardaud plates and tableware will bring artistry to your table.
Bernardaud jewelry is truly unique. The porcelain is smooth and sensuous.

The true art of giving begins and ends at Bernardaud.. For all your fine and collectable pieces of Jewelry and Great Table Tops.  Please visit Bernardaud.
